Praised by the Toronto Star for his “technically flawless, poetically inspired and immensely assured playing,” Jiayan Sun has performed extensively in North America and China and has concertized at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, Severance Hall in Cleveland, National Concert Hall in Dublin. His performances have been broadcast on BBC, RTÉ, China Central Television, and Toronto Classical Music Radio Station. He has won many major prizes, including third in Leeds International Piano Competition, fourth and audience prizes in Cleveland International Piano Competition, second in Dublin International Piano Competition, and first in the inaugural CCC Toronto International Piano Competition. Born in Yantai, Shandong Province, China, he studied in The Middle School attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He graduated from The Juilliard School Pre-college Division with the achievement award in 2008 and received the Bachelor of Music degree from Juilliard in 2012, where he now pursues a master’s degree on full scholarship under the tutelage of Yoheved Kaplinsky.
